“Every shipment has its own story,” says Mark Dalton, Operations Manager at GulfStar. “From the moment the vessel enters the Houston Ship Channel to final discharge at storage terminals, our role is to coordinate every detail—customs clearance, pilot scheduling, cargo documentation, and liaising with inspection agencies.” Dalton emphasized that in fuel logistics, timing and precision are everything. “Even minor delays can impact refinery schedules, trading positions, and the wider market.”

Scheduling pilots, tugboats, and berth assignments is critical to minimize port congestion. Dalton adds, “Houston is a busy port. Mismanagement at this stage can have huge financial and regulatory consequences.”
